Jérémie Varry is the head hotel concierge of the Baur au Lac

He is a perfect example of this dedication to exemplary service. Jérémie is the man that knows how to get things done for guests even if they are not presently staying at the hotel. Recently Monocle Magazine recognized Jérémie as the “Best Concierge” in their travel top 50 list for 2015 / 16. We are sure they made the right choice.

According to Jérémie, to be a great concierge

“You have to have a good heart”

His early childhood passion was to be a jokey but when he quite literally grew out of that phase, passing 6 feet in hight, he began to get interested in hospitality. After graduating from a rigorous program for concierge training in Paris he embarked on his professional career, eventually finding a home at the Baur au Lac.

A hotel concierge is the guest’s connection with the world around the hotel and they often act as a personal assistant to the guests, forming a trusting relationship with them and learning to anticipate their needs. Jérémie confesses that some guests learn to rely on him so much that they will call upon his services even when they are not staying at the hotel.

“For many clients that travel all around the world we can contact the next stop and organize exactly the same services as we do here, so they get a line of service.”

He jokingly adds that the Grand Budapest Hotel movie got this element of his job correct. He will try and accommodate any request that a guest has. (within the law)
